Gene Nora Stumbough Jessen
"An aviation pioneer, member of the Mercury 13 astronaut training
program, and American heroine" is the introduction on the University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh honorary Doctor of Science commendation. It sounds
like hyperbole but it is all true and was long overdue. Still flying today and
encouraging young women to fly G'Nora has also written extensively on
the history of women in aviation, including two books, "The Powder Puff
Derby of 1929" and "The Fabulous Flight of the Three Musketeers."
History can be pretty dull reading except when G'Nora writes. Her
enthusiasm for flying spills over into her writing and she takes you on a
fabulous "flight."
