The Profiles of Women in Aviation provides background on the women whose pioneering spirit I have portrayed in my art works. I write most of the profiles based on research, both from reading & verbal or email conversations, as the works grew from Amelia to van Zandt. The living relatives of some famous historical figures have contributed enormously to the spirit of the art and my personal knowledge. A few of the profiles were written by the pilots themselves, which gives a rich, intimate touch that I could not have achieved without them and their friendship.
